A Trailer and video post

Gone Girl, out October 3rd: (first theatrical trailer)

Directed by David Fincher and based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn – unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior has everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife? Willow’s comments: yay David Fincher!

Annie, out December 19th: (latest international trailer)

Business tycoon and mayoral candidate Benjamin Stacks launches a campaign to take in Annie, a young girl who has been living with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan since her parents left her as a baby. Willow’s comments:  I don’t know how I feel about Cameron Diaz as Miss Hannigan. I can’t really believe the performance.

How To Train Your Dragon 2, out June 13th: (trailer 3)

It’s been five years since Hiccup and Toothless successfully united dragons and vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snotlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Now, Hiccup and Toothless must unite to stand up for what they believe while recognizing that only together do they have the power to change the future of both men and dragons. Willow’s comments: I don’t have much to say about this. I enjoyed the first one.

The Giver, out August 15th: (first theatrical trailer)

This film, based on Lois Lowry’s book, tells the story of a perfect world. Everyone here is happy. When Jonas is 12 years old, he’s chosen to be the community’s Receiver of Memories. He enters into training with an old man called The Giver. From the Giver, Jonas learns about pain, sadness, war, and all the unhappy truths of the “real” world. He quickly realizes that his community is fake. Confronted with this reality, Jonas faces difficult choices about his own life and his future. Willow’s comments: I don’t know how I feel about this. I loved the book growing up. It’s a must-read. I read that part of the movie will be in black and white, which is good because it’s closer to the book and concept. Also yay Alexander Skarsgård and Meryl Streep!

Lucy, out August 8th (first theatrical trailer)

A woman, accidentally caught in a dark deal, turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic. Willow’s comments: this will be interesting. It’s from Luc Besson, so it should be good.

A clip from The Fault In Our Stars, out June 6th:

Hazel and Gus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that Hazel’s other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. Based on the book by John Green. Willow’s comments: I haven’t read the book yet, but I admit I have a fondness for tear jerkers.

X-Men: Days of Future Past clip, out May 23:

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future. Willow’s comments: I love X-Men, and I enjoyed X-Men First Class. Plus it’s Bryan Singer again, which is good. I just hope he didn’t bite off more than he can chew this time.

A video post

Featuring vampires.

First we have the international trailer for Only Lovers Left Alive, the vampire movie from Jim Jarmusch starring Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton. It’s been a hit at film festivals. I believe this is being released in February in the UK and April in the U.S. (whyy do we have to wait so long? I guess I should be happy it got a distributor at all, though).

Next we have the teaser trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s The Strain, a tv show coming this summer on FX. The show is based on the book of the same name that GDT co-wrote with Chuck Hogan. The story is about a virus that turns people into ravenous vampires. But these aren’t the subdued, romanticized vampires that have become commonplace these days, these are more monstrous (think I Am Legend). I will see anything with Del Toro’s name on it, personally. This is the first teaser trailer, so not much happens.

Lastly we have an ‘on the set’ featurette from season 4 of Game of Thrones. We get glimpses of the characters and actors. I wish this was longer personally but I know they want to keep a lot of it under wraps.

Elysium trailer

In the year 2159, Wealthy people live on a space station called The Elysium, and everyone else lives in slums on a destroyed Earth. Matt Damon’s character is the one to break into Elysium with a new robotic suit contraption.

This is the second film from Neill Blomkamp, who did the fantastic District 9 (which, if you haven’t seen it, do so now). It does look a little stylistically similar, which worries me a little, but otherwise it’s really neat. And apparently Sharlto Copley plays a security guard (who looks rather evil in the trailer) and I’ll see it simply for him, too (he was amazing in District 9, the fact that it was his first time acting is even more astonishing).

Oh and Jodie Foster is in it too.

New Iron Man 3 trailer

I can’t wait. There are a couple shots that confirm some speculation, such as the Iron Legion, and there’s a shot of Pepper that I won’t mention because it’s a spoiler and the cut isn’t working.
