Heroes to return in 2015

Break out the Wendy & Lisa, Heroes is coming back. Yes, really. During the Olympics last Saturday NBC showed the above teaser with the Heroes logo and “Heroes Reborn” on the bottom. I happened to be watching and immediately googled it, but nothing came up until a few minutes later on Variety (and then it was everywhere, you’ve probably seen it somewhere already). Thankfully, it will be the original creator working on the new series:

Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept.

I really liked Heroes, season 1 and maybe 2 are included in my all time favorites. However, I do agree that it really went downhill after the second season (during the second season?). I agree with this person, who says that it is a good idea to revive Heroes:

What’s been forgotten is how exciting Heroes was in that first year, and how ahead of its time the series was—especially if you consider the rash of superhero concepts currently being developed for the small screen in the wake of Marvel Studios’ dominance at the box office. Reviving Heroes make a lot of sense for NBC beyond any nostalgia element, if only because it’s a superhero franchise that mainstream audiences are familiar with that NBC already owns outright. Why not try to bring it back right now?

The new stuff is going to be a 13-episode miniseries also combined with a digital series. It will feature new characters but, as NBC says, “we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

Game of Thrones season 4 trailer

“There’s only one hell: the one we live in now.” Featuring Jamie’s new short hair, Tyrion, Joffrey being typical, and shadows of dragons. Not as good as previous years’ trailers, namely season 2. A lot of people fighting, of course. Not enough Arya Stark, if you ask me.

Game of Thrones S4 teasers

Finally some season 4 stuff! HBO has released the above teaser and 5 vines from the S4 trailer. We got an air date for season 4 yesterday: April 6th. The full S4 trailer will premiere Sunday right before the new show True Detective airs at 9:00 pm. If you’re unfamiliar with vines, they’re little looping 6 second videos, like an animated gif with sound. Since you can’t embed vines, someone has thankfully changed them into youtube video format. It’s not the best quality but here they are:

^ shot of Daenerys

^ I’m not real sure what this is actually. Some fighting.

^ Jon Snow fighting.

^ Tyrion in handcuffs

^ our first look at new character Oberyn Martell

That’s all for now. I’ll post the trailer as soon as it’s available on Sunday.

A Game of Thrones post

Yes, again. There’s so many new things today that it requires its own post. First off, a clip from the S3 episode 1, of Dany watching Drogon (I believe) feed and talking briefly about the dragons.

Really great effects on the dragons.

Another short clip with Tyrion and Cersei:

Also, the  S3 premiere was last night in LA and so we have a bunch of red carpet interviews and pictures, all at winteriscoming.net:

Rest of the pictures here, video interviews with the cast here and here, George R.R. Martin interview here.

Also some new S3 stills here.

I can’t believe how big the Stark kids are.

I was going to post all of the images and interviews but I just can’t, the post would go on forever. Check out winteriscoming’s tumblr for more.

Two new Game of Thrones interviews

One with the producers talking about the S3 dragons:

The first thing you notice is the dragon’s size. The creature no longer looks like an exotic bird that Daenerys Targaryen (Emila Clarke) can put on her shoulder. It’s now like a medium-sized dog. Only if you were to put this thing on a leash and walk it around a park, other pet owners would run screaming (you only get a slight sense of its increased fearsomeness in the current trailer, which shows a dragon flying from behind).

Over on the Thrones set, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss sit at wooden table that’s lavishly adorned for King Joffrey’s dinner feast. They compare the dragons’ growth to the way a baby crocodile or rottweiler can start off cute, then turn into a monster.  “This is an interesting time for the dragons,” Benioff says. “When they were born they were adorable. Last season, as you say, they were still kind of cute. But now they’re turning into proper flying dragons. One of the interesting things about the books, and hopefully the show, is that the weapons of mass destruction in this world are living breathing things. And as they get older that presents problems.”

“They’re still cute to Daenerys,” Weiss adds. “They’re her babies. But her babies can burn down a house in a few minutes and they’re getting increasingly terrifying to everyone around her. At some point she will have to reckon with the fact her babies are all grown up.”

And one with George R.R. Martin talking about adapting the series for tv (among other things):

RAR: There do seem to be an increasing number of deviations from the books — not so many in Season 1 but more in Season 2…

GRRM:
I think that’s a process that’s likely to continue, and some of that is just the nature of the process. I mean, when you make… Everything is related to everything else. So, if you make a small change in Season 1, it could lead to a really big change in Season 4 because the thing that was supposed to happen didn’t happen and the guy who was supposed to come in never appeared and it was just a line in that book but now you’re in this later season and you don’t have him set up. So, everything gets magnified and you have to deal with it.

Game of Thrones in Entertainment Weekly

and Ygritte:

Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss had this to say about the new season:  “Like the book, it builds,” Benioff says. “Once the season kicks into gear, we’ve already seen stuff that makes me think it will be the best one yet. And it ought to be.”

Weiss adds “There’s major massive events happening like I don’t think we’ve ever had before.”  There’s one particular book “Scene Which Shall Not Be Named,” as Benioff called it, that left the Thrones team devastated. “I’ve never seen the crew so emotional,” Benioff says. “If the scene has that effect on the people making it who know what’s coming, if they’re that overpowered, I think it’s going to have an overwhelming effect on people watching it.”

(Red Wedding, anyone?)
