Heroes to return in 2015

Break out the Wendy & Lisa, Heroes is coming back. Yes, really. During the Olympics last Saturday NBC showed the above teaser with the Heroes logo and “Heroes Reborn” on the bottom. I happened to be watching and immediately googled it, but nothing came up until a few minutes later on Variety (and then it was everywhere, you’ve probably seen it somewhere already). Thankfully, it will be the original creator working on the new series:

Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept.

I really liked Heroes, season 1 and maybe 2 are included in my all time favorites. However, I do agree that it really went downhill after the second season (during the second season?). I agree with this person, who says that it is a good idea to revive Heroes:

What’s been forgotten is how exciting Heroes was in that first year, and how ahead of its time the series was—especially if you consider the rash of superhero concepts currently being developed for the small screen in the wake of Marvel Studios’ dominance at the box office. Reviving Heroes make a lot of sense for NBC beyond any nostalgia element, if only because it’s a superhero franchise that mainstream audiences are familiar with that NBC already owns outright. Why not try to bring it back right now?

The new stuff is going to be a 13-episode miniseries also combined with a digital series. It will feature new characters but, as NBC says, “we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

Chris Pratt as Peter Quill.

The first trailer will be in theaters this Friday but will premiere first on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tuesday night.

From this article:

The scenario almost sounds like the start of a sci-fi joke: A child of the 1980s, the deadliest woman in the galaxy, a tattooed green warrior, a talking raccoon and a sentient alien tree walk into an intergalactic prison.

Instead, it’s the start of a new space saga, Guardians of the Galaxy, due Aug. 1 from Marvel Studios. Directed by James Gunn, the film is based on the cult comic book and continues to explore theMarvel Cinematic Universe of the Iron Man andAvengers films but in an entirely different way.

I’ve said it before, I don’t know how well this will do. It will be interesting to see.
