Wicked is one of my all time favorite musicals, probably second only to the stage version of The Lion King. And when you’ve seen, been in and worked on nearly 130 shows, that’s saying something.
I’ve always said that if they made a Wicked movie, they should make a movie of the book, not the musical. The book is epic, it’s a little like Lord of the Rings mixed with Harry Potter mixed with Jane Austen (and thinking about it now, it’s probably only a matter of time before this is made into a movie).
Maybe a musical movie would work, but only if done correctly and that’s kind of a long shot.
Universal apparently has a Wicked movie on the table right now, depending on the success of Oz the Great and Powerful. (read as: oh no) Seeing that Oz the Great and Powerful is a Sam Raimi movie, I’m on the fence about it after the disaster that was Spider-Man 3. But who knows, good directors usually have at least one mishap, maybe this movie will be better. For the most part though, I’m with The Mary Sue on this: “That movie looks so shiny and substanceless and awful. But do I have to hope it does well now so Universal won’t put Wicked on the back burner?”
So basically, I’m interested in having a Wicked movie made, depending on who they get to do it.
